Springfield, IL — A local resident is absolutely fuming after discovering that billions of dollars in unused VA home loan benefits are just sitting there collecting dust while veterans struggle to buy homes.
“I’m not a financial guru, but it’s just common sense,” said Gary Henderson, 54, in a now-viral Facebook rant. “My buddy Served 12 years, got out, and rented a dump because he thought the VA loan was ‘too complicated.’ Meanwhile, some guy with a trust fund buys a second vacation home. Where’s the logic?!”
Henderson’s post, shared over 4,000 times, points out that the VA loan program requires no down payment and offers competitive rates, yet an estimated 90% of eligible veterans never use it. “They’d rather let the benefit rot than pick up a phone? What’s wrong with people?”
Community members quickly chimed in. One commenter wrote, “I used mine and saved $20k. It’s literally free money for houses.” Another added, “The banks don’t push it because they make less profit. Wake up, people.”
Henderson says he’s now planning to stand outside the local VA office with a megaphone. “If you’re too proud to use a benefit you earned, you’re part of the problem. It’s not rocket science—it’s common sense!”
