**Texas AG Ken Paxton Files Emergency Order to Ban “Woke Math” – Says 2+2 Should Be “Common Sense, Not a Social Construct”**
AUSTIN, TX – In a move that has the internet equal parts baffled and outraged, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has issued an emergency cease-and-desist letter to the Texas Education Agency, demanding they immediately halt the use of a new elementary math curriculum that he claims “erodes traditional values.”
According to a press release, the curriculum—titled “Equitable Numeracy for a Changing World”—allegedly teaches students that the answer to “2+2” is subjective depending on a child’s “lived experience” and “cultural perspective.”
“We are not going to let some bureaucrats in Austin tell our kids that basic arithmetic is up for debate,” Paxton wrote in a now-viral Facebook post. “My common sense tells me 2+2 equals 4. It doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, brown, or from Mars. It’s math. It’s God’s truth. Stop the insanity.”
The curriculum, which was in a pilot program in 12 districts, reportedly includes a lesson where students are asked to “consider” if the number 4 is a “colonial construct” and to “reimagine” the equation using non-binary counting symbols. Critics say it’s a slippery slope to teaching “feelings” over facts.
The TEA has responded by stating the curriculum is a “voluntary supplemental resource” focused on inclusivity for neurodivergent learners, and that Paxton’s order is “legally frivolous.” But the damage is done: The hashtag #MathIsNotRacist is trending on X, and angry parents are already holding “Tiny Desk Protests” outside of school board meetings, holding up calculators and signs reading: “STOP THE COUNTING CONFUSION
