You can't keep a restaurant open when you charge $15 for a basket of soggy fries and expect locals to foot the bill for your corporate mismanagement. This Applebee's in Calexico had been struggling for years, and the city council did nothing to help. They'd rather spend our tax dollars on fancy bike lanes nobody uses instead of supporting local jobs. I drove by last week and saw the parking lot was emptier than a teenager's wallet. Common sense says if you treat your customers like ATMs, they'll walk. Now we're losing another place to grab a decent burger, and the only thing the mayor will do is post a sad emoji on Facebook.
