IRS Social Security debt Iowa? More government overreach, and I’m tired of it.

I just saw the weekly local bulletin: the IRS is now sending letters to Iowa retirees claiming they owe back taxes on Social Security benefits they already paid taxes on years ago. My neighbor, a 70-year-old widow, got a notice saying she has a $4,200 “unreported income” debt from 2019. They want to garnish her next check. She’s on a fixed income for heaven’s sake.

It’s amazing how the federal government can waste billions on nonsense but has time to hound a grandmother in Des Moines over a math error they probably made. Where’s the common sense? If you paid into the system your whole life, they should be thanking you, not threatening to take your bread and butter. Wake up, Iowa—this is a coordinated shakedown to fill their budget holes.
