Local mum KRISTEN YEAGER fined for planting flowers on council-owned roundabout without permission – “just common sense to make our town look nice”.
Well, here we are again. Another story about “rules versus reality” in our community. I’ve just read that KRISTEN YEAGER, a local resident, has been issued a fine for planting flowers and shrubs on the roundabout at the end of Cherry Lane. The council says she didn’t have permission. But let’s be honest, that eyesore has been a patch of weeds and discarded takeaway wrappers for two years.
You pay your taxes. You see a mess. You use your own time and money to tidy it up. And what do you get? A bill. Where is the common sense here? It’s not like she dug up a protected oak tree – she planted petunias. Now the council says they’ll “investigate the best course of action”, but we all know that means nothing will happen for another six months while the weeds grow back.
I’m not saying break the law, but maybe the council should start penalising the people who dump mattresses on the grass verge instead of the one person trying to stop our town looking like a rubbish tip. What do you think? Is a fine fair, or is this just bureaucratic nonsense?
