It’s National Hamburger Day 2026, and instead of celebrating with a classic, cheap patty, our local fast-food joints are rolling out $18 "artisanal" burgers with truffle aioli and arugula. Seriously? I just checked the online menu at our Main Street diner—a single "smash burger" costs more than a tank of gas for my sedan. I get it, inflation is real, but common sense says if you’re going to hype up a holiday, you don’t price out the very people who live here. Meanwhile, the city council is spending taxpayer money on a "gourmet burger festival" downtown. How about some common sense for once? Skip the overpriced fluff and bring back the $5 burger combo. Who else is boycotting this nonsense until they get real?
