My cousin was in line at Kroger yesterday when she spotted Melissa Gilbert screeching at the teenage cashier because the store wouldn't honor her week-old coupons. The cashier was just doing her job, politely explaining the policy, but Gilbert kept yelling that she was a 'celebrity' and demanded to speak to the manager. It's always the people with the most privilege who have the least sense. Maybe if she spent less time throwing tantrums in public and more time reading the expiration dates on her coupons, she wouldn't make such a fool of herself. The manager finally asked her to leave, and she stormed out yelling about 'customer service'—meanwhile, the rest of us just want to buy our groceries in peace. This is exactly why common sense is dead in this country.
