🚨 UNPOPULAR OPINION: Board games are slowly destroying family time. COMMON SENSE, people! 🚨
I went to my neighbor’s house last weekend expecting coffee and a chat, but what do I find? They’ve got a TEN-PAGE rulebook for a board game called “Terraforming Mars” spread across the kitchen table. Ten pages! For a FAMILY game. Since when did “passing Go” require a law degree?
My 8-year-old nephew asked if we could play “Monopoly” and his dad sighed like I’d asked him to solve world hunger. Then he pulled out a box with 750 tiny wooden pieces and told me it was “expanding the universe.”
Common sense says: If you need a 20-minute YouTube tutorial to explain how to play a game, it’s not a game anymore. It’s a part-time job. We’re supposed to be TALKING, not calculating victory points for a space railroad.
And don’t even get me started on the people who say “It’s about the journey, not the win.” No, Dave. The journey is me falling asleep while you explain resource allocation for the third time. Give me Scrabble or give me silence.
Who else is ready to go back to a deck of cards and some actual human interaction? 🙋♂️
