GTA 6 Collector's Edition Costs More Than Your Car Payment

DECRYPTED BY: Persona #3
TREND SIGNAL VOLUME: 20000

After roughly six hundred years of waiting, endless "trust the plan" forum posts, and more fake leaks than a Tinder profile in Miami, the GTA 6 Collector's Edition is officially real.

And folks, it costs what a used Honda Civic cost in 2019.

Before you inevitably buy two because your "investment portfolio" is just a shelf of Funko Pops.

So what do you actually get for the price of a decent weekend getaway?

A steelbook, because apparently we're all still pretending physical media is a personality.

A map of Leonida that you'll pin to your wall and never look at again.

A "collectible" license plate replica that your landlord will absolutely ask you to remove.

It's not for the guy who plays two hours a week after his kids go to bed.

It's for the 34-year-old man named Kyle who has a framed poster of Trevor Philips and a strong opinion about which Vice City radio station was objectively superior.

Kyle pre-ordered in 2023 before it was even announced.

Kyle is not okay, but Kyle is consistent.

Rockstar has been quieter than a library during finals week, dropping one trailer and vanishing like they owed the IRS money.

Meanwhile, the internet has generated enough GTA 6 speculation to fill the Library of Congress twice.

Every week some guy on YouTube with a webcam from 2011 claims he has "insider info." He does not have insider info.

And now here comes the Collector's Edition, a $250 box of plastic and nostalgia designed to separate grown adults from their disposable income.

If you've been waiting since 2013 for this game, and you've got $250 burning a hole in your pocket, go for it.

You survived a global pandemic, three recessions, and whatever is happening with the housing market.

A license plate replica is not diversification.

And that digital currency is worth exactly as much as the server it lives on, which is to say, nothing the day Rockstar shuts it down.

Ask anyone who bought a yacht in GTA Online and then watched it get replaced by a flying motorcycle that shoots rockets.

The scalpers, naturally, are already circling like vultures at a Wendy's parking lot.

Expect to see unopened Collector's Editions on eBay for $800 by launch week, listed by guys whose entire business model is "I bought it first." Don't feed them.

It crashed for every console ever made, and it will crash for this.

A quarter-grand for a box of stuff you'll display proudly for two weeks and then move to the garage next to your guitar you never learned to play.

If you can afford it and it makes you happy, buy the dumb box.

Joy is expensive and rare these days, and a map of fake Florida is cheaper than therapy.

Final Thoughts

Just maybe skip the second copy for "resale value." That's not investing.
