It's 11 PM on a Tuesday and my phone starts blowing up like a fire alarm.
People I ain't talked to since middle school sending me "yo is this you??" 😭 Somebody dropped my full name, my address, AND a pic of my front door in a group chat with thousands of members.
Just floating there like it's a Fortnite lobby.
I literally post about snacks and my cat.
And if you don't know what that is yet, bestie, let me put you on real quick.
Doxxing is when somebody digs up your private info — legal name, address, phone number, workplace, all of it — and posts it for the internet to see.
Not the cute "internet sleuths" vibe neither.
And it can go from a screenshot to somebody literally standing outside your crib in like an hour. ⚠️ Here's the scary part: it's been happening to regular people, not just celebs.
Streamers, gamers, students, even folks who just said one spicy opinion in a comment section.
All it takes is one person who's bored and mad and has your info saved somewhere.
Screenshots get shared, reposted, stitched, duetted.
The internet never forgets, it just changes platforms.
I spent that whole night with my lights off, heart going crazy, refreshing a page like that was gonna fix anything.
The police said they'd "look into it" which is cop for "good luck, buddy." 🙃 So what do you actually do if it happens to you?
Lock your accounts down, screenshot EVERYTHING for receipts, and report the posts to the platform.
Tell people you trust so you ain't carrying it alone.
If you feel unsafe, contact local law enforcement and ask about your options — some states actually have laws on the books for this now.
Second, start scrubbing your digital trail.
Check data broker sites that sell your info for cheap.
Yeah it's annoying, but it's way less annoying than a stranger knowing where you sleep.
Third — and this one's for everybody — be careful what YOU share.
That "post your pet's name and your first street" chain?
It looks cute but it's feeding somebody's spreadsheet. 🚩 The wildest part is how fast it goes from "lol internet" to "wait, why is there a car idling outside." Nobody deserves that just for existing online.
At the end of the day, the internet is a public park, not a diary.
Share your joy, share your memes, share your hot takes — but guard your info like it's the last slice of pizza at the party.
Because the moment it's gone, you're not in control anymore.
Final Thoughts
Stay loud, stay safe, and log off sometimes.
