Southwest Airlines Announces Major Network Expansion: 22 New Routes Include Flights to Key West, Chicago, and Seattle
DALLAS — Southwest Airlines has officially unveiled its largest single-day route expansion in company history, adding 22 new nonstop services set to launch in the coming months. The announcement, made from corporate headquarters on Monday, includes inaugural flights to Key West International Airport for the first time, alongside increased frequencies to Chicago Midway and Seattle-Tacoma International.
According to the airline, the new schedule will add approximately 5,000 additional seats daily across the network. Key routes include daily round-trips from Nashville to Key West, Denver to Chicago Midway, and Las Vegas to Seattle. Executives say the move aims to improve connectivity for business and leisure travelers, particularly in the southern and western United States. "We are responding to customer demand and strengthening our presence in high-growth markets," said Andrew Watterson, Southwest’s Chief Operating Officer, in a press statement.
Bookings for the new routes open today at 6:00 a.m. local time, with introductory fares starting as low as 49 dollars one-way for select flights. The expansion will take effect gradually between August and November of this year. Industry analysts project the move could increase Southwest’s market share by up to 3 percent in the competitive domestic sector.
