2018-2022 Ford Safety Recall Issued for Over 700,000 Vehicles Due to Brake Fluid Leak Risk
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 12, 2024) — Ford Motor Company has issued a major safety recall affecting approximately 720,000 vehicles from the 2018 through 2022 model years. The 2018-2022 Ford safety recall, announced in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, addresses a critical brake fluid leak that can lead to reduced braking performance and an increased risk of collision.
The defect involves a potential leak at the rear brake hose connection, which may allow brake fluid to escape over time. Affected models include select Ford Edge, Explorer, and F-150 vehicles, as well as the Lincoln Nautilus and Aviator. Owners are advised to watch for warning lights or a soft brake pedal. Ford will notify registered owners by mail, with instructions to visit a dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the rear brake hoses. No injuries or crashes have been reported in connection with this specific issue as of yet. The recall is expected to begin in late October 2024.
