The announcement was made by co-CEO Ted Sarandos at the company's London content showcase on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM GMT.
According to the official statement, Wednesday season 3 will begin filming in early 2025, with principal photography scheduled to take place in Romania and Ireland. The series, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, features Jenna Ortega reprising her role as Wednesday Addams. The renewal follows season 2's record-breaking debut, which drew 252.1 million viewing hours globally within its first week of release on September 27, 2024.
Netflix reported that Wednesday season 2, which premiered on September 20, 2024, emerged as the platform's most-watched English-language series of the year, surpassing previous records held by Stranger Things and The Crown. The streaming giant cited data from Nielsen Media Research, indicating that the series maintained a 93 percent audience retention rate through its final episode.
Wednesday season 3 will continue exploring the supernatural mysteries of Nevermore Academy, with new cast members expected to be announced in the coming months. Tim Burton, who directed four episodes of the first season, will return as executive producer but will not direct any episodes this season due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming Beetlejuice sequel.
