World Leaders Pledge to Increase Stake in Global Cybersecurity Alliance
Geneva, Switzerland — A coalition of 35 nations has formally agreed to raise their financial and intelligence stake in a newly formed Global Cybersecurity Alliance (GCA) following a three-day summit in Geneva. The decision, announced by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs earlier this morning, aims to counter a 47% increase in state-sponsored cyberattacks reported this year. Each member state will contribute a minimum of 0.2% of its annual defense budget to the joint fund, which will finance early-warning systems and digital infrastructure hardening. The agreement also establishes a shared intelligence database to track threat actors in real time. Experts caution that the initiative’s success hinges on consistent cooperation, as past alliances have faced enforcement challenges. The first operational phase is scheduled to launch in Q1 2026.
