Yeah, they just announced three new direct flights to our local airport—from Denver, Las Vegas, and some other big city hub—and the city council is acting like we won the lottery. Meanwhile, the rest of us are stuck in traffic jams on Main Street, listening to out-of-towners complain about our "charming" single-lane roads and the lack of a Starbucks on every corner. Common sense would tell you we don’t have the infrastructure for this. I saw three rental SUVs blocking the crosswalk outside the grocery store yesterday, and the drivers were staring at their phones like the sidewalk didn’t exist. But hey, at least Southwest Airlines’ new routes will bring in more tax revenue—until we have to repave the entire highway because these flights landed at 3 PM on a Tuesday.
