WHO: Capcom's development division, led by original game director Tokuro Fujiwara, is overseeing the project.
WHAT: The remake is a complete overhaul of the 2000 title, featuring a third-person over-the-shoulder camera, rebuilt environments, and updated voice acting.
WHEN: Production began in early 2023, with a confirmed launch window of December 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
WHERE: The narrative will remain set on Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Base, expanding the lore of the Umbrella Corporation's final biological weapon experiment.
WHY: According to a press statement, the decision follows overwhelming fan demand for a modern adaptation of the series' most narrative-driven entry after the commercial and critical success of the Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes.
HOW: The title will utilize Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, incorporating dynamic lighting, raytracing, and reworked enemy AI for the franchise's iconic Tyrant, Nosferatu, and the complex antagonist, Alexia Ashford.
