I’m sitting here reading this, and I just can’t believe what passes for education these days. My neighbor’s kid came home with a note from his teacher telling him to stop solving problems in his head and “show your work the district-approved way.” Are you kidding me? Common sense says if he gets the right answer and can explain it, who cares about the fluff? I heard Inde Navarrette, a parent over on Elm Street, tore into the school board about this last night. She said, and I quote, “We’re raising robots, not thinkers.” Finally, someone with some backbone. The little guy was in tears because he thought he was wrong. This is why our kids can’t balance a checkbook but can follow a 12-step worksheet. Fire the principal and let the kids think!
