Geomagnetic Storm Triggers Widespread Radio Blackouts Across Northern Hemisphere
A severe geomagnetic storm, caused by a powerful coronal mass ejection from the sun, disrupted high-frequency radio communications and satellite operations across the Northern Hemisphere on Monday.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center, the storm reached G4 intensity, the second-highest level on the five-point scale, at approximately 14:00 UTC. The event, which impacted regions from the United States to Europe, caused temporary blackouts for aviation, maritime, and emergency services. The storm also produced stunning aurora borealis displays visible as far south as central France and the Great Lakes region.
Authorities advised operators of critical infrastructure to remain vigilant, as fluctuations in the planet's magnetic field could persist for the next 24 to 48 hours. No permanent damage has been reported, but tracking systems for power grids are on high alert.
