FBI Announces Major Cybercrime Takedown Involving International Hacking Ring
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a coordinated operation announced earlier today, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI, disclosed a significant takedown of a sophisticated international hacking ring responsible for data breaches affecting thousands of businesses and individuals across the United States.
According to officials, the investigation, codenamed Operation Digital Fortress, led to the arrest of seven individuals in three countries, including two in the United States. The suspects are accused of deploying ransomware and phishing schemes targeting critical infrastructure and financial institutions.
The FBI confirmed that the operation began six months ago following a tip from a cybersecurity firm. Evidence collected includes digital assets worth an estimated 15 million dollars and seized server networks used to launder proceeds.
"These arrests demonstrate the FBI's unwavering commitment to disrupting cybercriminal networks that threaten our national security," an FBI spokesperson stated during a press conference.
Victims in at least 12 states have been identified, with the FBI urging any affected parties to contact their local field office. The investigation remains ongoing.
