2018-2022 Ford Safety Recall Announced for Millions of Vehicles Following Brake and Powertrain Defect Investigations
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ford Motor Company has officially announced a major safety recall affecting approximately 2.9 million vehicles manufactured between the 2018 and 2022 model years. The action, taken in coordination with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, addresses two distinct safety defects identified in popular models including the Ford Escape, Explorer, and F-150.
The first defect involves a potential brake fluid leak from the master cylinder, which can lead to a loss of braking performance and increased stopping distance. The second issue relates to a transmission control module software anomaly that may cause the vehicle to inadvertently roll after being placed in park. Ford confirmed it has received multiple reports of accidents and one injury linked to the fault.
Dealers have been instructed to replace affected brake master cylinders and perform software updates free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing next month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration urges drivers of affected models to visit the agency's official website or contact their local Ford dealership immediately to confirm vehicle eligibility and schedule repairs.
