2018-2022 Ford Safety Recall Expands to Over 500,000 Vehicles Over Fire Risk
DETROIT, MI – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced an urgent expansion of the 2018-2022 Ford safety recall, now covering more than 500,000 vehicles across the United States. The recall, initially issued in March 2024, has been broadened due to confirmed reports of engine compartment fires, even with the ignition turned off. Affected models include select 2018-2022 Ford Explorer, Escape, and Lincoln Aviator vehicles equipped with a 2.3-liter or 3.0-liter engine. The defect stems from a potential fuel leak at the high-pressure fuel injector, which can accumulate near hot engine components and ignite. Ford has confirmed at least 29 fires and four injuries linked to the issue. Owners are advised to immediately contact their local Ford dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the fuel injector assembly. The company will begin notifying affected customers via first-class mail starting May 24, 2024.
