Madison Square Garden Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Ticketing Fraud in Resale Scheme
NEW YORK - A class action lawsuit has been filed against Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp., alleging that the iconic venue engaged in deceptive practices by artificially inflating ticket prices through a coordinated resale scheme. According to the complaint, filed Monday in the Southern District of New York, the defendants are accused of withholding a significant number of tickets from the primary market, then selling them through affiliated resale platforms at vastly inflated prices. Plaintiffs argue that this practice violates federal antitrust laws and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO. The lawsuit specifically targets events held at Madison Square Garden between 2018 and 2023, including concerts by major artists and New York Knicks games. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages and a court order to cease the alleged practices. An attorney for the venue denied the allegations, stating that Madison Square Garden operates in full compliance with all applicable laws and that the lawsuit is without merit.
