Brendan Banfield Accused of Orchestrating Double Murder in Apparent Love Triangle Spiral
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Authorities have formally charged 37-year-old Brendan Banfield with two counts of first-degree murder following a suspected double homicide that investigators believe was motivated by an extramarital affair. The incident, which unfolded late Wednesday evening in a suburban residential neighborhood, has drawn intense public scrutiny due to the alleged premeditated nature of the killings.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at a home on Oakwood Lane at approximately 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of two individuals: a 39-year-old male identified as David Chen and a 34-year-old female identified as Rachel Park. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives say evidence, including text messages, financial records, and testimonies from acquaintances, suggests Banfield, the husband of one victim, had been engaged in a secret romantic relationship with Park. The accused is believed to have meticulously planned the attack over several weeks, procuring an unregistered firearm and conducting surveillance on the victims. Law enforcement officials recovered the suspected weapon from the suspect's vehicle during a traffic stop hours later.
"Why would someone throw away everything? A marriage, a career, freedom—over what?" asked a visibly distressed neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity. "It’s a tragedy that defies reason."
