DETROIT, MI - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a major 2018-2022 Ford safety recall affecting 556,756 vehicles in the United States, following reports of a potential transmission fluid leak that could increase fire risk. According to NHTSA documents, the recall covers certain Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport models equipped with a 1.5-liter engine. Ford Motor Company identified that a cracked transmission oil cooler hose may allow fluid to leak onto hot engine components, creating a possible under-hood fire. As of the latest report, Ford has received four confirmed fire incidents linked to the defect, though no injuries or crashes have been reported. The automaker has stated that dealers will inspect and replace the necessary hoses at no cost to owners. Notification letters will be mailed starting April 28, 2025.
