Sagrada Familia Completion Date Set for 2026, Marking 144-Year Construction Milestone

BARCELONA, SPAIN – Officials overseeing the construction of the Basílica de la Sagrada Familia have confirmed that the final tower of the iconic structure will be completed by 2026, exactly 144 years after construction began. The announcement was made on March 20, 2025, by the Junta Constructora del Templo Expiatorio de la Sagrada Familia.

According to project managers, the central tower dedicated to Jesus Christ will rise to a height of 172.5 meters, making it the tallest religious building in Europe upon completion. The construction, originally designed by Antoni Gaudí, has faced numerous delays due to historical events, funding challenges, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The completion in 2026 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death. Authorities have stated that the basilica will be fully operational for religious services by December 2026, with remaining decorative elements expected to be finished by 2030.
