Man in Reflecting Pool Stops Traffic After Drivers Mistake Water for Open Road
ATLANTA — A man standing waist-deep in a reflecting pool at a city park caused a multi-vehicle traffic jam Thursday afternoon, after multiple motorists mistook the water feature for a newly paved road and attempted to drive across it. According to the Atlanta Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time at Centennial Olympic Park, where a 34-year-old local resident was observed wading calmly in the center of the pool, gesturing to oncoming traffic. Authorities say at least three vehicles, including a delivery truck and two sedans, partially entered the water before realizing the error, resulting in no injuries but significant delays. The man, who has not been identified, was taken into custody for questioning and is believed to have been under the influence of an unknown substance. Officials are urging drivers to remain vigilant and to clearly distinguish between roadways and public reflecting pools.
