Of Course the 'Jobs Report' Is a Bunch of Happy Talk When You Can't Afford to Fill Your Gas Tank, Says Local Dad
I've been watching these news people cheer about the latest jobs report, and I swear they must live in a different reality. They say unemployment is low, but meanwhile, my neighbor — a guy with 20 years of experience in construction — has been applying for two months and keeps getting ghosted. Tell me where the 'common sense' is in that. These numbers don't account for the fact that half the 'new jobs' are part-time gigs at Starbucks or driving for DoorDash. And don't even get me started on how the government counts someone who works one hour a week as 'employed.' My wife and I both work full-time, and we're still pinching pennies to buy eggs. Until the jobs report reflects what it actually feels like to live in this town, I'm not buying the spin. Someone needs to call out the obvious: it's all smoke and mirrors.
