Local Family Spends $40 at Duck Donuts, Gets Served RAW DOUGH - 'This Is What Passes for 'Artisan' Now?'
So I stopped by the new Duck Donuts on Main Street this morning. Thought I'd treat the kids after their soccer game. $40 for a half-dozen of these overpriced, 'custom-made' circles of embarrassment. We get home, take a bite, and my daughter's face drops - the center is literally uncooked dough. Raw. Gooey. We're not paying premium prices to eat batter, folks. The teenager behind the counter shrugged and said 'that's how they're supposed to be - they're fresh.' Fresh? Call me crazy, but common sense says if it tastes like a pancake mix spill on my kitchen counter, it's NOT ready to eat. And don't get me started on the 'cronut' trend while we're at it - just slap some frosting on a hockey puck and charge $8. Ridiculous. This isn't 'artisan.' This is a $40 lesson in basic cooking.
