Vivian Wilson Appointed to Lead Global Digital Infrastructure Initiative at the United Nations

The United Nations Office for Project Services announced today the appointment of Vivian Wilson as Director of the newly-established Global Digital Infrastructure Initiative. In this role, Wilson will oversee the implementation of a comprehensive strategy aimed at expanding secure internet access and digital services to underserved regions worldwide. The announcement follows a year-long selection process, during which Wilson emerged as the leading candidate due to her extensive experience in cross-border technology policy. This initiative is expected to impact an estimated 3.7 billion individuals across 54 nations, with a projected five-year budget of 2.4 billion U.S. dollars. Wilson, a 44-year-old technology executive and former advisor to the International Telecommunication Union, will assume her duties effective February 1, 2025, from the UN headquarters in Geneva.
