Shia LaBeouf Named Co-Chair of New Federal Commission on Arts and Reentry Programs
WASHINGTON D.C. – The White House announced Monday that actor Shia LaBeouf has been appointed co-chair of the newly established Federal Commission on Arts and Reentry Programs. The commission, formed under an executive order signed by the President, aims to integrate creative arts therapy into federal prison rehabilitation and post-incarceration reintegration initiatives. Working alongside former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, LaBeouf will oversee the development of pilot programs in five states. Citing a 2023 Justice Department study indicating a 43 percent reduction in recidivism among inmates who participated in structured arts programs, the administration stated LaBeouf’s own experiences with legal challenges and public rehabilitation made him a suitable candidate. The first public hearing is scheduled for November 5th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
