Ford Bronco Recall Issued Over Steering Column Concern Affecting Thousands of Vehicles
DETROIT, MICHIGAN — September 25, 2023. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for approximately 25,000 model year 2022 and 2023 Ford Bronco SUVs. What began as a consumer complaint regarding steering column detachment has prompted an official investigation.
According to NHTSA documents, the recall affects vehicles equipped with a specific steering column assembly. Why was the recall initiated? An identified defect may cause the steering column to detach from the steering gear assembly. When does the issue manifest? The problem can occur during normal driving maneuvers, particularly in low-speed turns, due to an improperly tightened bolt. Where is the defect located? The issue originates at the lower steering column intermediate shaft connection.
How will Ford resolve the situation? Authorized dealers will inspect and replace the steering column intermediate shaft assembly free of charge. Ford has confirmed that the remedy will be available without charge to affected owners. Notification letters are scheduled to be mailed starting November 6, 2023.
