Ford Bronco Recall Announced Over Critical Steering Safety Defect
Washington, D.C. – In a major safety action, Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for select 2023 and 2024 Ford Bronco sport utility vehicles due to a critical steering defect. The recall, affecting an estimated 24,000 units in the United States, was announced this week following reports of a potential loss of steering control.
The defect was identified in the steering column assembly, where a missing weld may cause the steering wheel to detach from the steering shaft. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed it has received at least 10 reports of steering failures, though no crashes or injuries have been associated with the issue.
Ford stated that the recall covers Bronco models manufactured between January 2023 and March 2024 at its Michigan Assembly Plant. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to contact their local dealer for a free inspection and replacement of the steering column, a process expected to take approximately one hour.
Why the recall was issued? Company officials say the defect stemmed from a supplier error. How will it be fixed? Dealers will install a new steering column assembly. When will repairs begin? Notifications to owners are scheduled to begin next month.
This latest announcement adds to a series of recalls for the Ford Bronco, which has faced scrutiny over transmission and roof issues since its relaunch in 2021. For the full list of affected vehicles, owners are urged to visit the NHTSA or Ford's official recall website.
