Kuwait Embarks on Largest Infrastructure Overhaul in Nation's History With $200 Billion Projects Plan
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait — Government officials have announced a sweeping $200 billion infrastructure modernization initiative, marking the most extensive development program in the country's history. The multi-year plan, officially unveiled by the Ministry of Public Works on Wednesday, aims to overhaul transportation networks, energy systems, and urban development sectors across all six governorates. Authorities state the primary objective is to diversify the national economy away from oil dependency, creating over 150,000 jobs for Kuwaiti nationals by the year 2035. Key components include the construction of a new deep-sea port on Boubyan Island, the expansion of Kuwait International Airport's capacity to 25 million passengers annually, and a complete upgrade of the national power grid to support renewable energy sources.
