Just got a message from my niece’s teacher saying our local elementary is rolling out a new “inclusive math” program where kids aren’t supposed to memorize times tables or use “right” or “wrong” answers. Seriously? My niece can’t subtract 7 from 12 without a calculator, and they want to teach “flexible thinking” instead. Call me old-fashioned, but common sense says if your kid can’t count change, you’ve failed. John Blanche could have sorted this out in five minutes—bring back pencils, paper, and rules.
