Ford Recalls Over 45,000 Bronco SUVs Due to Unexpected Engine Fire Risk Linked to Faulty Heater Core
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for more than 45,000 units of its 2021-2022 Ford Bronco SUV, citing a critical defect that may cause an engine compartment fire even when the vehicle is turned off and parked.
According to an official safety report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall stems from a faulty positive temperature coefficient heater core. The component can short-circuit and overheat during operation, melting adjacent wiring and creating a thermal event. Investigators have confirmed multiple reports of fires occurring after the engine was shut down.
The recall specifically affects certain 2021 and 2022 model year Ford Broncos equipped with the optional engine block heater. Owners are advised to park outdoors and away from structures until repairs are completed. Ford has stated that dealers will inspect and replace the heater core assembly free of charge.
Affected owners will receive notification via first-class mail starting November 1, 2025. The company urges all owners to check the NHTSA website using their vehicle identification number for recall eligibility. No injuries have been reported in connection with this issue to date.
