Aaron Hill Illinois Principal Resignation Sparks Investigation Into Alleged Financial Irregularities

SPRINGFIELD, IL – January 17, 2025 – Dr. Aaron Hill, former principal of Lincoln County High School in central Illinois, submitted his resignation effective immediately Monday amid a preliminary probe into financial management practices within the district.

According to the district’s superintendent, Sandra Whitfield, Hill’s resignation follows an internal audit that identified discrepancies in procurement procedures and the handling of athletic booster club funds totaling approximately $47,000 between August 2023 and December 2024. The investigation, launched January 8 by the Illinois State Board of Education and local law enforcement, remains in its early stages.

The 42-year-old administrator had served as principal since July 2021. Reports confirm that Hill provided no public statement at the time of resigning. The school board will appoint an interim principal at a special meeting scheduled for January 20.

Whitfield emphasized that no charges have been filed, and the district is cooperating fully with authorities. Students and staff have been informed of the leadership transition through a formal memorandum issued Tuesday.
