Scott Michael Campbell Sentenced to Life Without Parole for 2022 Double Murder of Elderly Couple in Rural Idaho
Authorities in Bonner County, Idaho, have announced that 46-year-old Scott Michael Campbell was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2022 fatal shootings of an elderly couple. The verdict, delivered at the Bonner County Courthouse, brings closure to the community following the deaths of 84-year-old Vernon L. Miller and 81-year-old Dorothy G. Miller, whose bodies were discovered in their home near Sagle, Idaho, on November 13, 2022. According to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell pleaded guilty in March to two counts of first-degree murder in exchange for the state dropping a potential death penalty charge. Investigators determined that Campbell, a former neighbor, killed the Millers during a dispute over property boundaries, utilizing a shotgun. The sentencing, overseen by Judge Barbara Buchanan, included testimony from the victims’ family, describing the devastating impact on their lives. Campbell will serve his sentence at the Idaho Department of Correction.
