COMMON SENSE DIES AS CITY COUNCIL BANS AMPLIFIERS AT BEACH BUT ALLOWS OBSCENE MUSIC AT MIDNIGHT PARADES
I am absolutely livid, and I think every single person on this page with half a brain should be too. My family has lived on Beach Boulevard for 40 years. We raised three kids here. Now, I can’t even take my elderly mother for a quiet stroll because the city council, in their infinite wisdom, passed a new ordinance banning portable speakers and amplifiers from the sand. Fine. Whatever. I get it, some people are loud.
But here’s the kicker that makes zero sense: they just gave a permit for a “Synthwave After Dark” charity run that starts at midnight this Saturday. The parade route goes right past the senior center and the hospital. The organizers are promising “thumping bass and explicit lyrics” in their Facebook event. I called the city clerk, and she told me, “Well, it’s a permitted event, so the noise decibel limit is higher.” Higher? At midnight? While my 70-year-old neighbor can't play a mellow Bob Marley song from his golf cart at 2 PM without a $500 ticket?
We are living in an upside-down world where common sense is illegal, but public nuisance is a tax write-off. Who voted for these people? If this doesn’t make you mad, you’re part of the problem. Don't even get me started on the deer.
