Mika Abdalla Unveils 2025 Production Deal with A24 in Surprise Career Pivot
LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress and producer Mika Abdalla announced a first-look production deal with A24, marking a significant strategic shift in her career from on-screen roles to behind-the-camera development. In a press release issued Tuesday, the studio confirmed the multi-year agreement, which will focus on developing and producing original horror and thriller content.
The partnership was finalized late last week, with Abdalla citing a desire to expand creative control after her breakout performance in the 2023 indie thriller "The Lost Daughter." Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but industry analysts estimate the package to be valued between $3 and $5 million, contingent on project milestones.
According to the announcement, Abdalla will immediately begin development on two untitled genre projects, both co-written with screenwriter Sarah Gray. A24 has committed to a first-year slate of three feature films, with production slated to begin in early 2026.
"This is not a departure from acting but a deliberate expansion of my creative footprint," Abdalla stated in the release. She will continue to audition for select lead roles while prioritizing producer credits.
The move comes amid a broader industry trend of actors transitioning to production roles, with data from the Producers Guild of America indicating a 40 percent increase in actor-producer dual roles over the past five years. Reporting from Los Angeles.
