Juneteenth chaos in our town square is exactly why common sense has left the building.
We had a "Juneteenth Freedom Festival" yesterday. The organizers blocked off Main Street for four hours. No parking for anyone, including residents who just wanted to get home from work. They set up a loudspeaker blasting music that you could hear three blocks away. My neighbor’s elderly mother couldn’t get her mail because they parked a food truck on the sidewalk.
I get it—celebrate history, fine. But why does every community event have to turn into a total inconvenience for everyone else? Common sense says: pick a park, don’t shut down the only road to the grocery store, and maybe start at noon instead of 8 AM when people are trying to sleep. This isn't about the holiday; it’s about basic respect for the people who live here. Love thy neighbor, right? Apparently not when there’s a permit and a DJ.
