Cape May Officials Want to Tax Our Rainwater—When Does Common Sense Kick In?
So I’m scrolling through the city council minutes for Cape May, and I see they’re floating a new “stormwater utility fee.” That’s fancy government talk for a tax on rain. You heard me right. They want to charge homeowners based on how much hard surface you have—driveways, roofs, patios. So if you don’t have a grassy yard, you pay more. My neighbor’s driveway is concrete, and he just got a notice that his “runoff contribution” is too high. Meanwhile, the beach is eroding because they spent millions on a jetty project that didn’t work. This isn’t rocket science, folks. Stop nickel-and-diming us and fix the infrastructure. But no, let’s tax the sky instead. Common sense left Cape May years ago.
