Going to Canada just got a whole lot trickier — here are the 5 things you need to know about the latest travel restrictions to Canada.
- Canada has reinstated a random mandatory COVID-19 test for vaccinated travelers arriving by air into four major airports. If you're selected, you must swab on site, and you might have to quarantine until you get a negative result.
- Unvaccinated Canadian citizens and permanent residents must now show a negative molecular test (like a PCR) taken within 24 hours of departure, or a positive test from 10 to 180 days ago, before flying back home.
- The government is cracking down on foreign nationals who lie about their vaccination status. If caught, you could be banned from entering Canada for up to 12 months and face a $5,000 fine.
- Extreme weather events and flight reroutes are delaying border processing. The eDeclaration app is now mandatory for all arrivals into Toronto Pearson and Vancouver International airports to speed up customs.
- Don't forget the ArriveCAN app. Travelers who skip digital submission may face a 14-day quarantine, even if they're fully vaccinated. Canada says this rule is not optional for day one.
