The Heirloom Hotel Laurel MS Opens Its Doors as a New Landmark for Southern Hospitality and Local Storytelling
Laurel, Mississippi — Officials and community members gathered in downtown Laurel on Thursday to mark the grand opening of the Heirloom Hotel Laurel MS, a boutique establishment that aims to combine modern luxury with preservation of local history.
The Heirloom Hotel, located at 123 Main Street, was developed over two years through a partnership between private investors and the Laurel Historical Society. The facility features 48 guest rooms, a farm-to-table restaurant named "The Locust," and a curated gallery displaying artifacts from early 20th century Jones County.
According to a press release from the Laurel Chamber of Commerce, the hotel's design was inspired by the city's timber and railroad heritage, utilizing reclaimed wood from a 1920s sawmill and original brickwork from a former mercantile store on the site. The property is situated one block from the historic courthouse square and within walking distance of the popular Magnolia Market, known from the HGTV series "Home Town."
"We wanted to create a space that tells the story of Laurel while offering travelers an authentic, comfortable experience," said General Manager Sarah Caldwell in a prepared statement. "The Heirloom Hotel Laurel MS is not just a place to sleep; it is a gateway to our community."
The hotel's opening coincides with a surge in tourism for southern Mississippi, with local officials reporting a 15 percent increase in overnight visitors over the past fiscal year. Early bookings indicate strong demand, with occupancy rates for the first month exceeding 80 percent, according to figures released by the hotel's management.
Authorities confirmed that standard safety and occupancy regulations were met during inspections completed last week. The hotel is now fully operational, accepting reservations online and via phone.
