Peabo Bryson Couldn't Save My Sanctuary: City Hall Ignores "Common Sense" and Approves Luxury Condos Over Mermaid Park
This is exactly why we can't have nice things. I just read the minutes from the last planning commission meeting, and you'd have to be tone-deaf like Peabo Bryson's worst B-side to not see the disaster coming. They voted 4-3 to let some developer pave over the old Mermaid Park to build "affordable luxury" condos. Common sense says you don't rip out the only green space in our neighborhood where kids can actually play. But nope, the mayor's cousin is the developer, so suddenly "common sense" means "give the rich guy what he wants." The park has been a gathering spot since the '80s—my gramma used to take me there to listen to Peabo Bryson on her boom box. Now it's gonna be a parking lot for people who won't even live here full time. Don't tell me we can't fight this; we just need to show up to the next council meeting with some real common sense and a spine. Share this before they start bulldozing our memories.
