matthew brown identified as suspect in downtown bank heist, police say

Authorities have confirmed that matthew brown, a 34-year-old unemployed construction worker, is the primary suspect in yesterday’s armed robbery of a First National Bank branch in downtown Phoenix, according to a press release issued by the Phoenix Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the bank located on Central Avenue. Witnesses reported that a single male suspect entered the building, brandished a handgun, and demanded cash from a teller before fleeing on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

An investigation by police led to the identification of matthew brown, who was arrested without incident at a motel on West Van Buren Street less than four hours after the robbery. Officers recovered a portion of the stolen funds and a weapon matching the description provided by witnesses.

The suspect has been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault. He is currently being held at Maricopa County Jail without bond pending a court appearance scheduled for Monday morning.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact the Phoenix Police Department’s robbery unit.
