Thousands Participate in Rock and Roll Marathon San Diego Despite Early Morning Rain
SAN DIEGO, CA — The annual Rock and Roll Marathon San Diego took place this morning, drawing thousands of runners to the city's streets for a 26.2-mile race that combined athletic endurance with live musical entertainment. The event commenced at 6:30 a.m. Pacific Time at Balboa Park, with participants navigating a course through downtown San Diego, the Pacific Beach boardwalk, and Mission Bay before finishing near the Embarcadero. Despite an early morning drizzle that lowered temperatures to the mid-50s, organizers confirmed no significant delays or injuries. The race, which also included a half-marathon and a 5K, featured 20 live bands stationed along the route, in addition to cheer squads aiding the runners. Kenyans Elias Kiprop and Grace Kibiwott secured first-place finishes in the marathon, with official times verified by race staff. Officials from Competitor Group, the race organizer, reported that over 25,000 participants had registered, with proceeds contributing to local San Diego charities through fundraising partnerships.
