Asheville, North Carolina, April 3, 2025 — A historic revival is unfolding in the heart of Asheville, North Carolina, as the long-dormant Phoenix Mill, abandoned for three decades, has been officially reborn as a state-of-the-art community innovation hub. According to city officials, a $12 million revitalization project led by local nonprofit Hope for Asheville completed its final phase this week, transforming the 1920s textile factory into a mixed-use facility with 40 affordable artist studios, a public makerspace, and a rooftop garden. The project’s name, The Phoenix, symbolizes its rise from industrial decay. Mayor Eileen Hamilton stated during a press conference that the development created 200 new jobs and is expected to attract over 150,000 annual visitors. The hub opens to the public on Saturday, with all studio spaces already fully leased to local creators.
