Common Sense Takes a Holiday: Ecuador’s New Traffic Law Costs Local Dad His License for Turning Right on Red
Just when you thought bureaucracy couldn’t get any dumber, I see the city is pushing that new traffic ordinance supposedly inspired by some pilot program in Ecuador. Common sense says you look both ways and go, but our brilliant leaders decided we need a 47-page rule book. My neighbor Bob just lost his license for doing a perfectly safe right turn on red. They said it’s because the ordinance prohibits it at all intersections with a city park within 500 feet—which, newsflash, is every intersection in town. So now we’re supposed to sit there like idiots while traffic backs up for a mile. I’d love to hear how this saves lives when I’m getting rear-ended by someone who actually has common sense. Awaiting the inevitable excuse from city hall about 'data from Quito'.
