Global Investigation Launched Into 'Bricks and Minifigs' Scandal Over Counterfeit Collectibles
Global City, USA – April 6, 2025 – A massive counterfeit operation involving high-value toy building sets and miniature figures, known as the "bricks and minifigs scandal," has prompted a coordinated international investigation. Authorities from ten countries, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Interpol, confirmed the probe during a press conference Thursday.
The scandal erupted following a nine-month undercover operation that uncovered a sophisticated network allegedly producing and distributing counterfeit blocks and figurines. Law enforcement officials executed 37 coordinated raids across multiple continents, seizing an estimated 50 million counterfeit pieces valued at over $200 million in retail price.
According to Chief Inspector Marie Dubois of Interpol, the operation appears to have been running for at least four years, targeting major online marketplaces and independent toy retailers. "This represents a significant threat to intellectual property," Dubois stated. "The quality of these counterfeits is alarmingly high, making consumer detection difficult."
Authorities warned that the fakes often contain substandard materials, posing potential choking hazards for children. The investigation is ongoing, with twelve suspects currently in custody awaiting charges of fraud, copyright infringement, and conspiracy.
