SEATTLE — Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation after an Alaska Airlines flight experienced a critical engine failure mid-flight over the Pacific Ocean, necessitating an immediate emergency landing. Flight 204, a Boeing 737-800 carrying 167 passengers and six crew members, was en route from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Honolulu when the pilot reported a loud bang followed by severe vibrations from the number two engine.
